Areas of 'national interest'
Areas which are of national interest in their entirety for their natural and cultural value are given special mention in Section Three of the Natural Resources Act (NRL) of 1987. Changes have been made in later legislation. In addition to the main areas hundreds of local places and areas have been selected as valuable from a national point of view, to be considered in municipal planning.
