Soils, Southern Sweden

Quaternary deposits
Till formed by the inland-ice from archaean bedrock dominated by granites and gneisses as well as peat cover the greatest parts of the country. In Middle Sweden vast areas are characterized by bare bedrock. Fertile clayey till was formed in scattered areas of lime-stone bedrock providing together with marine clay sediments in areas below the highest shoreline good soils for agricultural use.
