THE POPULATION PYRAMID 1990Demographic trends affect the 'shape' of the population pyramid.
The demographic history is known in detail since the middle of the 18th century. At the age of 35, seven out of ten persons are living with another adult. At the age of 40, 92% of men and 90% of women are gainfully employed. At the age of 64, 40% of the population are still gainfully employed. In every age group up to the age of 50 there is normally a surplus of boys, but women survive longer than men. During the 1930s there was considerable concern that the Swedish people would die out because so few children were born. During the early 1940s however Sweden had a baby-boom, peaking in 1945 and giving rise to a new peak 25 years later. In 1983 fewer children were born per woman than ever before in Swedish history.
